Tony Greenhalgh MA, PGDE, MIFireE, BA (Hons)

Tony teaches at the 欧博官网入口 after a long career in Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service involving operational fire-fighting, rescue and community safety, mainly working in the challenging fire-ground areas of inner-city Manchester.

He also has extensive experience of political, organisational and human resource issues as a Fire Brigades Union representative, eventually as Regional Secretary representing firefighters and control room staff in the North-West.

Tony graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) in Politics and Contemporary History from the University of Salford with a dissertation on the intelligence war in Northern Ireland. He also has a Masters degree in Intelligence and International Relations with a research dissertation on the North American Free Trade Agreement; both degrees were undertaken part-time at the University of Salford. Tony has also contributed to the journal Intelligence and National Security with a book review of Big Boy鈥檚 Rules; a study of counter-terrorist operations during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Tony also has Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers, achieving the Godiva Award for top UK candidate in the institution鈥檚 examinations. After serving as a Watch Commander at a number of fire stations, Tony鈥檚 Fire Service role was as Station Commander in the Operational Assurance Team undertaking safety audits reviewing major operational incidents, performance management and community safety.

After taking a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Tony has taught at Bury College University Centre and at the 欧博官网入口. He is currently teaching a wide range of Higher Education modules including Understanding Terrorism, Substance Abuse and Crime, Youth Justice, and Perspectives on Criminal Justice.
